Project Summary:
The Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District has submitted a request for Congressionally Directed Spending for FY2027 to complete the purchase of a new frontline fire engine. The total cost of the apparatus is approximately $2.35 million. The District has already secured $850,000 in prior federal funding toward the project, and is requesting the remaining funding necessary to place the apparatus into service.
The new fire engine will replace an aging reserve apparatus that has exceeded its recommended service life and lacks modern safety and operational features. The replacement apparatus will improve firefighter safety, operational reliability, and emergency response capability during structure fires, medical emergencies, wildland incidents, and regional mutual aid responses throughout South San Diego County.

Project Name: Regional Emergency Command Center Upgrade

Project Summary:
The Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District has submitted a request for Congressionally Directed Spending for FY2027 to modernize the District’s Emergency Operations Center. The project will upgrade communications infrastructure, situational awareness technology, interoperable communications systems, and facility infrastructure necessary to support multi-agency emergency coordination during large-scale incidents in South San Diego County.
The upgraded facility will improve regional response coordination among fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and other public safety partners during events such as wildland fires, flooding, earthquakes, and other disasters.
